Class 9th Maths Formula sheet Polynomial
- Polynomial :- An algebraic expression in which the exponent of variables involved are only non negative integers , is called a polynomial.
- The expression like 1/(x+2) ,√x+1 etc are not polynomials.
- Term:- Each individual part of an expression or sum which stands alone or is connected to other parts of an expression by a plus(+) or minus(-) sign e.g. In expression 3x2+4x+9 , there are three terms , 3x² , 4x , and 9.
- Degree of polynomial:- the highest power of the variable in a polynomial is called the degree of the polynomial.
- Monomial, binomials, trinomials have one, two, and three terms respectively.
- Degree of Linear, quadratic, cubic, and constant polynomials are 1, 2, 3, 0 respectively.
- Remainder theorem:-if p(x) is any polynomial of degree greater than or equal to 1 and let a be any real number .if p(x) is divided by the linear polynomial (x-a) then remainder is p(a).
- Factor theorem :-If p(x) is a polynomial of degree n ≥ 1 and a is any real number, then
- x – a is a factor of p(x), if p(a) = 0, and
- p(a) = 0, if x – a is a factor of p(x).
- A real number k is said to be a zero of the polynomial p(x) if p(k)=0.
