Rational Numbers - Maths Formulas Class 8

- Natural Numbers N = {1,2,3,4,5……….}
- Whole number W= {0,1,2,3,4,5……..}
- Integers Z={…-7,-6,-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,6…}
- Rational Number:- A number is called rational if it can be expressed in the form P⁄Q where p and q are integers (q≠0).
- The Additive inverse of x is equal and opposite in sign to it (so, y = -x or vice versa).
- Multiplicative inverse of a the given number is the reciprocal of that number.
- Closure property:- For two rational numbers say x and y the results of addition, subtraction and multiplication operations gives a rational number .5⁄6 + 1⁄2=4⁄3
- Commutative law:- For rational numbers, addition and multiplication are commutative.
- Commutative law of addition: a+b = b+a
- Commutative law of multiplication: a×b = b×a

- Associative law:- Rational numbers follow the associative property for addition and multiplication.
- Suppose x, y and z are rational then for addition: X+(Y+Z)=(X+Y)+Z
- For multiplication: X × (Y × Z)=(X × Y) × Z.
- Distributive Property:-Distributive property states that for any three numbers X, Y and Z we have X × ( Y + Z ) = (X × Y) +( X × Z)
